In the spirit of giving back, and our desire to support local businesses and artists, we are doing an artist spotlight series. We will be showcasing a new artist each day for the next 31 days. Today’s artist is Abner Recinos a visual artist.
Abner (MASTERIX) is a self-taught digital artist born in Guatemala in March 1967. He discovered his passion for visual arts from an early age, music always been tied to their work, performing the music graphically. It has a natural talent for creating mysterious stories, dark, fantastic and surreal.
Question: How did you get into design?
Abner’s Answer: The design has been part of my life since I was a child, my perception of the world was all design, God gave me the talent and the freedom to exercise it, so I decided to express this tool travez all that in my mind prevails, not I am a person who speaks. My best expression is through my design work.
Question: Where are you from, where did you go to school?
Abner’s Answer: Born in the city of Guatemala and Central America, and studied at the National School of Fine Arts, also consider myself self-taught in terms of some techniques, my curiosity led me to meet uncharted
Question: What are your tools of the trade?
Abner’s Answer: My brain, is the first tool, also work in pencil, ink, airbrush, and programs: Painter, Photoshop and illustrator
Question: What is your favorite movie, band, and artist?
Abner’s Answer: My favorite movie would be Amadeus, in terms of music, I like a lot but the favorites are Pink Floyd, Depeche Mode, Bjork, Klaus Schulze, Alan Parson, and classical music: Prokofiev, Chopin, Mozart … never end.
Question: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
Abner’s Answer: Vienna, Austria, England, Belgium Bruges, Italy ….. Basically Europe
Question: When you’re not designing, what do you like to do?
Abner’s Answer: Learn new music, watching movies, fixing and playing with my collection of Star Wars toys and super heroes with my children, I love sharing with them my tastes, hobbies, and passions.
Question: If you could meet anyone (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
Abner’s Answer: I would love to have a conversation with Chopin, with Syd Barret, Vincent van Gogh, and alive …. I like to meet John Williams, Klaus Schulze, Giger, Jean Michelle Jarre, Alan Parson, George Lucas.
Question: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in design?
Abner’s Answer: First I recommend that you do not let your talent die, feed him, visiting art pages, practicing, still the same when expressed, it is good to be aware that there are better artists than one, in terms of technique, but the expression of feelings can not be limited or pigeonholed by anyone, be innovative mind, do not remain anchored, practice various methods and techniques, perhaps discover that they are good at something you did not know.
