In the spirit of giving back, and our desire to support local businesses and artists, we are doing an artist spotlight series. We will be showcasing a new artist each day for the next 31 days. Today’s artist is Oliver Ibañez, a graphic designer from Spain.
Oliver Ibañez is a graphic designer from Spain who loves movies, tv shows, soundtracks, video games, Harley-Davidson bikes and Scotland! He hopes that some day he will become a famous and powerful Jedi and impress people with his crazy designs. Please join me in welcoming Oliver to the PosterVine family.
Question: How did you get into design?
Oliver’s Answer: Drawing and design has always been something that caught my attention since I was little, but over the years I have specialized in the design over illustration. Until I worked for my brother and his company Fanisetas, where I discovered the design on t-shirts and where I ended up trapped! Now I’m doing more illustration than design, but I found my dream job.
Question: Where are you from, where did you go to school?
Oliver’s Answer: I am from Benidorm, a small tourist town from Spain. I studied advertising graphics at the Art and Design School of Alicante and also I have a private career of Visual Arts from Institute of Visual Arts in Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz.
Question: What are your tools of the trade?
Oliver’s Answer: Most of the work is performed with the computer using Photoshop and Illustrator, but I also like to do some sketches with pencil and paper to try to reflect my ideas and give some twist if it’s necessary.
Question: What websites do you go to for design inspiration?
Oliver’s Answer: As I work doing t-shirt designs I usually visit any related site such as RedBubble, Qwertee, TeeFury or Ript Apparel. I love all the work I see from other artists and they often inspire me to create my own ideas.
Question: What is your favorite movie, band, and artist?
Oliver’s Answer: I have many movies that I love (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Braveheart, The Fountain…) I’m a big movie fan! About the music I love rock, power and symphonic metal (Rhapsody, Nightwish…) and of course movie soundtracks (John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Alan Silevstri, Howard Shore…). And artists are many, but I really love the work of Drew Struzan.
Question: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
Oliver’s Answer: I think I would live the Middle Ages, wearing my armor riding on my horse and holding my sword searching for saving damsels!
Question: When you’re not designing, what do you like to do?
Oliver’s Answer: The most part of my free time I’m watching tv series or remembering good old movies from the 80’s. Also if I have the chance to read a good book recommended.
Question: If you could meet anyone (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
Oliver’s Answer: Many years ago I had a dream where I was prisoner with William Wallace and trying to escape. I wish I could meet him in person!
Question: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in design?
Oliver’s Answer: If you really like and enjoy to make some illustrations or designing keep doing it! You will find how many people may like your work and that will help you to continue doing a good job more easily.
